Update on Graduation

Previously I had posted that there would be issues with graduating in December and attempting to start Graduate School in January.  Well, it has been confirmed that it is a longer delay than I thought.

I received an email from the registrar at Washington University that say that although I will graduate on December 19, 2012 that my diploma will not be posted until January 22, 2013.

This is necessarily a bad thing as it actually helps me to plan what to do with the Spring and/or Summer semesters.  This will allow more time to fill out applications and arrange financial aid.

Grad School Application Update

Well, it's been 9 months since I posted. But I've been busy with work and school, even taking a full-load during summer school.

Graduation is on the horizon, which might be a good thing as far as for grad school applications. My experience so far is that the school's will not forward your application through the admissions process until they have a transcript showing you have graduated. Now these are the same institutions that give high school seniors admission, but cannot seem to use the same rationale to college seniors.

I will be graduating in December. I guess if most students get their Bachelors in May they have all those months between graduation and August to get their grad school admissions in line. It's almost impossible to do between a December graduation and when the Spring semester starts in January. This is because of the lag in getting the actual graduation posted as well as that most schools are completely shut down for two weeks at the end of December and beginning of January.

Thus I have decided that in the Spring semester I will work on grad school applications, work on grad school GA positions or scholarships, and work on getting certified in both educational and technology field.

My reasoning is that I will still be in the habit of reading and studying with an end goal in mind. Instead of a final exam or research paper, my end goal is the certification exam.

So, while the whole December graduation is throwing some wrenches into the grad school considerations, I do have a plan. And, of course, money is going to be an issue so perhaps the extra time will be good.

Welcome to Grad School On-the-Go

Hello and welcome to my blog, that purportes to chronicle my adventures in grad school. Currently I am a year from graduation with a Bachelors in History, so I will be able to chronicle most of the admissions process.

Why On-the-Go?
Well...working two jobs and attending school requires an "on the go" mentality. Combined that I will likely do a Masters of Educational Technology--"on the go" is part of the nature of the online element.

Now, I did consider "Grad School 'on-the-run'" and see if I could get our local Mobil On-the-Run to sponsor the blog. (Because says "I'm spending lots of money one gas" than the commute to two jobs and to campus?) However, Grad School On-the-Go had a better ring to it..but for money I would change (hint, hint).
